Setting Up The Payroll
We support two main types of payroll: wages and salaries.
The difference between the two terms is that a salary is a fixed income which is paid every month. It can be defined as a monthly salary or a yearly salary – we offer both options. A wage is paid by the hour and strongly depends on the number of hours worked.
Normally, a salary is paid to an employee and an hourly wage to an external contractor.
There are certainly a lot of other ways to compensate for the work, like bonuses, extra payments for particular days or hours, etc. Our payroll feature is flexible enough to help you define a particular extra compensation while taking into consideration a number of options.
Initial setup
Before you see your first payroll report, you have to define:
- the currency used for your reports
- at least one employee with a main compensation (salary or wage)
- a payroll schedule
After defining your first payroll schedule, you will see the first payroll report getting generated. You can re-generate the report at any time by opening the report and clicking "Generate report". Please keep in mind that after marking the report as "Settled" you will not be able to make anymore changes to the report and can only export it to a pdf or a spreadsheet.
Viewing payroll details
We have views for several aspects of the payroll:
- Reports
- Schedules
- Team payroll
- Pay supplements
You can define multiple concurrent schedules for your company payroll, i.e. one for employees, one for external contractors. Or maybe you want to have one schedule for one group of employees and another one for a different group of employees – that's also possible. Every schedule generates its own report.
"Team payroll" lets you see all employees who have been assigned at least one main compensation, filtered by employee, compensation type or ungrouped as a simple list.
In "Pay supplements" you can define and edit those extra compensations, like bonuses, and assign them to employees.
