Shift Collisions: How to Avoid and Fix Them

This article is for shift supervisors, managers and business administrators.
This feature is available on desktop and tablet.

Your employees may be amazing but they can't work around the clock or at several locations at the same time!
In such cases you'll end up with a shift collision.

The app can recognise two types of shift collisions.

1. Shift overlaps for the same time

There is an overlap with another shift for the same employee for the same time, e.g. working at different locations.

Example: Employee A is scheduled for work from 09:00 - 12:00 at location 1 and 11:00 - 14:00 at Location 2.

In this case the colliding shifts are marked with a red exclamation mark in the schedule calendar.
If you hover over such a shift, you can see it is in conflict.
A warning will show in the Shift Editor if you change the shift.

Such shifts are still saved AND you can publish them if you need to, but we advise to reschedule one or other of the shifts
A yellow exclamation mark will be displayed in the top bar of the window as a reminder that there are still unresolved conflicts.

2. Short resting period

The resting period between two shifts of an employee is too short.

The resting period is normally set to 11 hours between the end of one shift and the start of the next shift.

In this case the colliding shifts are marked with a red exclamation mark in the schedule calendar.
If you hover over such a shift, you can see it is in conflict.
A warning will show in the Shift Editor if you change the shift.

NOTE: This collision warning can be customised or deactivated in "Business settings" - a page available only for business admins.

The collision detection checks past shifts within the last 30 days and all future shifts.
